Ascent of Mount Carmel

This piece was inspired by the writings of St. John of the Cross, whose treatise Ascent of Mount Carmel describes the author’s pursuit of a mystical union with Christ.  My work focuses in particular on the physical movement towards death.  I started this work when my mother was dying of cancer and I completed it after she died.  Angels and crucifixes are present on her journey, ushering her passage into the next life.
