Magnificat
The title of this piece refers to a canticle (or hymn) traditionally sung in certain Christian church services. In this piece, I attempt to depict a portrait of a woman suffering from mental illness. I encountered many such patients during my years working as an art therapist. The woman’s upward gaze reflects her pain, confusion, and desire for assistance that is not available to her. My use of black glitter here reflects her feelings of alienation.
